According to my Ukrainian friends, it is worth to visit it few times a year as every time you can see different events and exhibitions.
I have been there by car but it is not far from Kiev, you can go by bus from Libidskaya. Good idea to go there for  whole day, there is a lot to see, nice places to eat, and few hours on grass with book also make sense:)

Yes; and add to that the fresh air, the open landscape, and - on working days - quiet and empty!
In the 6 non-winter months we go there once a month.
Btw, the first Monday of every month has free entrance.

I really prefer a museum of folk architecture and traditions in Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi due to its authenticity and much bigger exhibition while Pirogovo is like "a few historical pictures for tourists on the run". That museum also contains a few smaller ones including even a astronautical museum. It's one hour drive (between Boriispil and Zolotonosha) and the air there is not that polluted. You can find nice pics here.

Oh, these guys say today Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi is a museum town, with little industry (a clothing, a footwear, and a handicrafts factory) but with 17 museums and many architectural monuments
