Well, they are not really telling us anything we do not already know. How unbelievably simple it would have been to "dra(e)w a conclusion that law is being violated during the storage of passenger luggage at the airport" when it is so blatantly obvious since, as reported, there have been 11,000 claims last year and 2,000 claims so far this year. "The officers from the Prosecutor General's Office, who have conducted checks" simply wasted money that could have been used to tighten existing and implement new controls.

Cellophane (or whatever they are) wraps should be available at ALL airports.

You will note that there is not mention of arrests or prosecution, sacking or even suspensions  Roll Eyes

I had the best experience with my bag held back with customs at Borispol 2 1/2 months ago since it arrived one day early due to international connections I was making. The suitcase was strapped in a thick clear plastic bag and sealed by customs at Borispol. Nothing missing and I didn't even have to show them the content. There are some bright spots after all at the Borispol Airport too  Grin

Got valuables? Carry them on plane when traveling at Boryspil

http://www.kyivpost.com/nation/29406/

by Yuliya Popova, Kyiv Post Staff Writer
Aug 13 2008, 21:53

Many travelers to and from Boryspil International Airport find their valuables are missing when they open their suitcases.
Travelers call them airport vultures. Police dub them luggage thieves. But whatever their name, they work at Boryspil International Airport checking out your bags after you check them in.

“Every third bag was pilfered, every single flight was checked, and only one percent of these incidents were investigated,” prosecutor Eduard Shevchenko said in describing the massive scope of fraud in the nation’s largest international airport.

Major air carriers in Ukraine reported more than 11,000 thefts in 2007. Police, however, registered just 578 incidents for the same period of time. They opened criminal proceedings only in nine cases. After an investigation exposed the staggering difference in reported thefts between the airlines and police, the General Prosecutor’s Office last month busted a police squad and six luggage handlers.

“I was waiting 45 minutes for my suitcase,” said Kateryna Koval, a victim of baggage looting after arriving in Ukraine from a recent trip to Istanbul. “What do you think they were doing all this time? They were pulling things out and now an airport handler somewhere is one camera richer!”

Celebrities, prominent businessmen, ambassadors and even students–all have fallen prey to luggage thieves. Passengers reported cameras, jewelry, laptops and other valuables missing from their checked in cargo after crossing a Ukrainian border.

What did i Write on Here Months Ago!!!

"A Word of Warning about TSA Locks,Only use them if going to USA,
ALL Customs have Keys to them and some cases have been opened/goods Stolen when Checked in(Borispol), to the time they are Loaded on to the Airplane (2 Hours for them).
I Use Combination Locks, sometimes an Electrical Cable Tie Aswell !!."

I Would also like to Add that some Security Men with X-Ray scanners have marked(Chalk?) Cases where to be Slashed and Taped back up so the Valuables can be Stolen.

Bad News for UK Flier`s

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7562920.stm

Airports face Bank Holiday strike

Workers at Gatwick will hold two 24-hour strikes later this month
Baggage handlers and check-in staff at Gatwick and Stansted airports are to strike on Bank Holiday Monday in a row over pay, unions say.

At Gatwick, 318 Swissport workers will walk out for 24 hours, halting services at some airlines. A second strike is planned for Friday 29 August.

The staff have rejected a 3% pay offer which the Unite union said was "an insult" and well below inflation.

Workers from two unions at Stansted have also voted to strike.

Unite said industrial action could spread to other airports in the coming weeks.

Workers at Manchester Airport will put the decision to a vote on Monday, and further ballots are expected later at Birmingham and Newcastle airports.

Unite members working for Swissport at Stansted will be joined by 30 members of the GMB union when they walk out on Monday 25 August and Friday 29.

The GMB members, who work for Airfield Services screening baggage for Ryanair and easyJet, have rejected a 1.5% pay offer.

Yes but it has nothing to do with Thefts from Boryspil Airport.  Maybe next time you can trouble yourself to type a few words and put it in a new topic.

Ok, but if everybody just posts anything anywhere there won't be much sense in having headers at all.  Its really just common courtesy not to hijack a thread on a tangentially related matter.

All in favour of a "news cut and pasted from BBC website which all Brits read daily anyway" section?
