Wizz receives permission

KIEV, July 1 – Wizz Air
Ukraine, a subsidiary of the
Hungarian budget airline Wizz
Air, has received an air operator's
certificate from the State
Aviation Administration.
According to a company's
press release, on the same day
its first aircraft Airbus 320 landed
in Ukraine.
Wizz Air Ukraine announced
that it would start operating an
initial network of seven
Ukrainian domestic routes from
Kiev Boryspil Airport on July
11.
The company will provide
low fare air travel services from
Kiev Boryspil Airport to Lviv,
Odesa, Simferopol, Kharkiv
and Zaporizhia. Flights from
Lviv and Kharkiv to Simferopol
will also be available to
Ukrainian customers.
Besides, from September 15
the company is intending to
start regular flights from Kiev
to London, Dortmund and
Milan.
The company plans to transport
over 1 million passengers
in 2009 and to employ 200 people
in Ukraine.
Wizz Air started operating in
2004. The airline flies to
Britain, France, Germany, Italy,
Spain, Poland, Norway,
Finland, Sweden, Turkey, and
Greece. Its fleet consists of seventeen

On closer examination it does amuse me how airlines get the label low cost.

Warsaw to Sheffield £237 plus cost of checking in, drinks, snacks etc with Wizz

Same dates to Manchester, albeit with connection in Schipol, $400, with KLM!

Thats right!!! If you book on the week of the flight with any "low cost" airline the price will normally be similar if not more expensive than "regular" airlines.

They are great though if you like to plan in advance and dont mind making plans for 3-4 months ahead, in this case the rock bottom fares are available if you are flexible about when you can travel.

This is where I think in Ukraine the culture is very different, people simply are not as organised as in western Europe and are not in the habit of planning trips and holidays so far in advance, I recently read an article with one of the bosses of Wizzair and she stated that it was difficult for them to convince Ukrainians that these prices are real and without catches, all of my friends think there is some catch or unwritten clause and are puzzled why they can buy a ticket to Odesa for 48gr, little do they know that Europeans have been travelling this way for about 10 years now, Im sure eventually they will cotton on tothe whole concept of "budget" travel

As far as I know as soon as they will receive authorization from Italian authorities they will start flying to Milan Bergamo as well.
Best rate I found (without promo) is 268UAH one way including taxes (or around 40 Euro at current exchange rate which is quite volatile). You should expect to pay an extra 10 Euro for a checked in bag.
It seems a very good deal.
