General background and analysis of how things are shaping up for Ukraine's Russian relatons.

While today's parade had some stirring moments and the equpment looked spiffy with the new coats of paint, the fact is that NATO is probably not so much a political issue as a practical one.  Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania don't seem to be worrying much about Russia coming back after their ports and airbases.  Poland seems fairly confident as well.

Yes, Ukraine has a larger military force than Georgia does. However, it is in a lower general state of readiness and operational efficiency.  The real question though is how determined the Ukrainian Army would fare facing Russian military units.  A family member yesterday told me not only that there was no way Ukraine COULD fight Russia but also that they doubted the military WOULD remain organized due to conflicting sentiments. Some of them seem to view this the same way some American families considered our own Civil War, "how could brother fight against their own brother?"

What a shame if it comes to this point.
