HI I WILL BE MOVING TO ODESSA SOON. I will be moving to odessa and would like some info on living there .I am married.
1. i will be taking all my stuff from america because odessa will be my home, i understand person has the right to ship personal property without paying vat, taxes etc but has anyone have trouble with certain items, for example i have like 250 dvds.they are copies but i am not breaking any laws because  unless more than 10 copies of 1 single movie ,its not infringement.can someone tel me there experiences. i also will be bringing 2 pcs.  i understand  yrs ago yuo had to declare desk top pcs but i would think with lower prices they wouldnt care.

2. how is fast internet service. i see ukrtelekom has 4mb speed 250 grv which is unlimited traffic, anyone  have problems with it?

3. what to do for entertainment? i use to live in kiev and you could get cheap vhs(now dvd) in english but  is english movies still availabe and  odessa  on my last trip didnt have to many. is thee a similar yakaboo service or way to get movies from kiev? also is downloading torrents easy?
any english tv in odessa?(i know ntv+ has national geo and animal planet?

4.anyone in odessa  want to show me rope(i was harrier once but they disbanded)

Can only address number 2 - Ukrtelecom.  My high-speed, unlimited has been great.  A couple of years ago when I started with them they had occasional interruptions in service of 1-3 days but that seems to have stopped over a year ago.  I trust DSL more than I do cable and have been very happy with it.

I cannot help you much at all even though I have lived in Odessa for a number of years.

When I brought all my DVDs and CDs (close to 1000 at the time) to Moscow when I lived there and laterly Ukraine I packaged them up, sent them, and had no problems - they are however all "originals", not downloads or copies.  The box was opened by customs but resealed and not one was broken or missing.

As for the rest - I am no computer expert, it either works or it doesn't and I call someone  Embarrassed Roll Eyes Shocked

If you declare your PC you will have to pay customs duty I think.

When I went to collect my things which I had shipped here last year the customs guy at the airport asked me what was in each box. When I told him there was a PC in one he said just to write down personal effects so I wouldn't have to pay anything.

As regards internet there are good and bad companies but where you live in the city determines which is available as most of them are cable although there are also DSL now.

As far as torrents I don't know a lot about it as I don't download myself but i have an American friend here who's lived here for a few years and he uses it all the time and has no problem downloading DVD quality movies in English.
