Keane's move to Liverpool concludes a long transfer wrangle with Spurs
Liverpool have completed the signing of striker Robbie Keane from Tottenham for a fee that could rise to £20.3m.

Keane, 28, underwent a medical on Monday after agreeing personal terms on a four-year contract worth around £80,000 a week over the weekend.

Spurs said they agreed an initial fee of £19m plus a potential further £1.3m.

West Brom goalkeeper Scott Carson feels Aston Villa skipper Gareth Barry would be best served moving to Liverpool.

The Reds have pursued Barry throughout the summer and BBC Sport understands Villa have rejected a bid of £13m for the 27-year-old England midfielder.

Barry has made it clear to Villa that he wants to leave for Anfield
Gareth Barry's proposed move to Liverpool could yet go ahead despite Aston Villa stating he will be staying with them, BBC Sport understands.

Liverpool failed to meet Villa's deadline of Wednesday to sign the 27-year-old England midfielder.

That led Villa to announce the deal was off, yet Liverpool remain eager to sign Barry and he wants to move to Anfield.

Bischoff will be an unknown quantity to most English fans
Arsenal have signed Portugal Under-21 midfielder Amaury Bischoff from Werder Bremen for an undisclosed fee.

Bischoff will join up with his new team-mates when they return from a training camp in Austria.

Bentley kissed the Tottenham badge after scoring on his debut
David Bentley made the perfect start to his Tottenham career by scoring in the 2-0 win over Celtic at the Feyenoord Jubilee Tournament in Rotterdam.

The £15m winger came off the bench at the interval and rolled home a close range effort on 80 minutes.

Tottenham end Arshavin interest 

Arshavin remains keen on a move 
Tottenham have decided against pursuing their interest in Russia star Andrei Arshavin, BBC Sport understands.

Zenit St Petersburg were reported to have rejected a bid from Spurs, while the the 27-year-old's agent was hopeful Arshavin would move to White Hart Lane.

Arsenal defender Armand Traore has signed a new long-term contract to stay at the Emirates Stadium, the North London club has confirmed.

The 18-year-old French under-19 international has made 18 first team appearances for the Gunners since joining from Monaco in 2005.

Liverpool denied permit for Leto 
 
Leto made four appearances for Liverpool last season
Liverpool's Argentine midfielder Sebastian Leto has been denied a work permit to play in England next season.

The 21-year-old, who joined the Reds from Lanus for a fee of around £2m in 2007, was granted an Italian passport last summer but it was later revoked.

Kanu pens new Portsmouth contract 
 
Kanu scored the winning goal in May's FA Cup final
Portsmouth striker Nwankwo Kanu has signed a new one-year contract with the FA Cup winners.

The 32-year-old, whose previous contract expired at the end of last season, has an option of a further year should he play a set number of games.

Kanu had been linked with a move away from Fratton Park, with a number of MLS sides in the US interested in him.

Rooney set to miss season opener 
 
Rooney has not trained since coming back from Africa
Striker Wayne Rooney is set to miss the opening match of Manchester United's Premier League campaign on 17 August after picking up a virus.

The 22-year-old contracted the mystery virus on United's pre-season tour of Nigeria and has not trained since.

"I doubt Wayne will be fit for the start of the season," said United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It's a virus he picked up in Nigeria and it's not a nice one. He's not been back in training yet."

Ferguson revealed Rooney's illness was diagnosed by the club's own laboratory.

Chelsea make £19.7m Robinho bid 
 
Robinho played a key role as Real won the Spanish title last season
Chelsea have made a £19.7m bid for Real Madrid's Brazilian striker Robinho, BBC Sport understands.

In a statement on their website, Chelsea confirmed they have made an offer for Robinho, although they did not reveal the size of their bid.

The 24-year-old former Santos star played a key role in helping Real secure the Spanish title last season.

But he is believed to be keen to join fellow countryman Luiz Felipe Scolari at Stamford Bridge.
