Man Utd player wins £4.5m payout

 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7553678.stm

Ben Collett was making his debut for the reserves when his leg was broken
A former Manchester United player whose career was ended when he was injured in a tackle has been awarded more than £4.5m in compensation.

Ben Collett, 23, broke his leg in a reserve game against Middlesbrough five years ago, at the age of 18.

Boro player Gary Smith and his club admitted liability for the injury.

The total compensation will be decided when sums for future loss of pension and interest on past loss of earnings are determined at a hearing in October.

Sitting at London's High Court, Mrs Justice Swift awarded the player £4.3m and said the final sum payable to Collett was unlikely to be less than £4.5m.

Thaksin could face League probe

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_city/7555512.stm

Shinawatra fled to Britain with his wife on Sunday
The chief of the Premier League says he would be willing to subject Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra to the fit and proper person test.

Thaksin faces corruption charges in Thailand and a warrant was issued for his arrest after he failed to appear in court in Bangkok on Monday.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "If we feel the rule has been breached, we will invoke it.

"(But) we have a club owner who has not yet been found guilty of any offence."

Portsmouth take Lopez on trial
by Robin Hackett, 12 August 2008

 http://www.setanta.com/en/Sport/News/Football/2008/08/12/Prem-Lopez-at-Portsmouth/?facets/sport-space/football/great-britain-locale/Barclays-Premier-League/

Portsmouth have taken former Sevilla midfielder Jordi Lopez on trial.

Lopez, who began his career at Barcelona and Real Madrid, moved to Sevilla in 2004 and was part of the Uefa Cup-winning team in 2006.

He moved to Real Mallorca that year but, after a loan spell at Racing Santander last season, he left the club by mutual consent earlier this summer.

The 27-year-old defensive midfielder played all 90 minutes of Portsmouth’s friendly victory over semi-professional side Gosport Borough on Tuesday night.

I've just placed a £1 bet on West Brom at 2,500-1 before the odds come tumbling down.

You could have got 7,500 to 1 with BetFred who are also offering 10,000 for Hull City to take the prize! Wonder what odds are on offer to see pigs flying over White Hart Lane?

I am not really a gambler but if you enjoy the odd flutter, you might be interested in a comparison site -

In the Seville game, the Eleven that Started were All subbed at Half-Time and 20 Minutes from the End 3 of those Subs were Subbed!!!, Score was 0-0.
During the week Their game was 0-0
This game could be a draw if they Kick Keane and Torres around??.
