With Nastya starting an MA in the autumn and me wanting to spend more time writing, we need a computer at home. It would only need to have the most basic capabilities (Word and DVD player) and could even be second hand, as neither of us are oligarchs just yet. Can anyone recommend a place where we could find a cheap laptop, or does anyone have one to sell?

Not sure where as I got it through work but I bought my better half a Dell Inspiron and it's really good. Most of the electronics chains, Foxtrot etc seem to have a good range, as do Metro C&C but you need the card.

If you're on a tight budget, look over the threads for the location of the rhinok that specializes in electronics.

Everest shop near Petrovka metro has a wide selection of the stuff. No need to buy a second hand one - prices start from as low as 500 USD. Try to find the device without OS. You don't need Vista to pay for it. Take nb to your office and sysadmin will set it up with all software you need for a beer Smiley

Jon,

Look no further than here

http://www.rozetka.ua/

Prices are considerably lower than the shops and the service is great, they come to your home with it and you get a written guarantee.

I bought an Acer 5620Z in April and it was very cheap compared to Foxtrot etc and I would reccomend this internet shop with no question!

That's such good advice I'm going to let you pull even further away from me in the "thank you" stakes! I'll have a look later today....

All in the service Jon  Grin

Out of interest did you ever use that link that I sent to you a while back re Soviet films, if not for Soviet films I am sure that it was useful in other areas  Wink

With websites like that its a wonder that any music atall is bought in Russia and Ukraine!

I was only thinking aloud in my last message, as now you know I don't have a computer to watch them on! I sort of feel as if my life here is stagnating, so I'm trying to stock up on some films, books and, well, friends, so that there's a bit of variety to the daily 9-6. Hopefully by the autumn I'll be reaquainted with some of my favourite films.

As for music - it's great that albums are comparitively much cheaper here than in Britain, although I should start looking for places where it's free!
