Out of interest, have any of the Kyiv folk tried the Ukrainian Marks & Spencer (M&S)?

I recall they opened a store in the Komod shopping mall on the left bank of the river. I ask simply because they sell fairly good quality ready made suits. The M&S in the City of London does a roaring trade in suits, favoured by those working in the square mile, especially the bank workers.

These suits are available in "mix and match" therefore jackets and trousers may be bought separately, a good thing for you taller guys.

The nearest metro to Komod is Livoberezhna - you can see its big sign from the platform....

Joe, if you find M&S, do please give us a post of your experience. As you probably already know, their shirts are excellent quality. Last time I looked, they sold longer shirts for the lankies!

after a 3 page discussion, i would love to see how you look like in your new suit!

anyway, could not you just try HB in Kiev and then buying the same model online?

I am doing it now (hopefully successfully)  with Levis, after having discovered that in the US are ways cheaper.

My sis now in Vegas she is buying me levis jeans for 25 dollars...how comes i did not know that before?

and apparently the same models buyable online in Europe at the levi's official e-shop cost minimum 2 times less at the official levis e-shop in the US

what other main brands (still talking about jeans) are definitely cheaper than EU in the US?
so far i only know about Carhatt and Levis...any other?

cheers

Carlushika - I will go to M&S at Komod after work today - been a bit side tracked for the last few days with quick beers after work that got a bit out of hand. Today I will be giving my creaking metabolism a rest and indulging in some restful shopping for shirts and socks.

Another question on Gillette razor blades - all the other countries I have lived in, namely, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Hong Kong, Australia the Gillette cartridge razor blades (Mach3 etc...) are absolutely brilliant - they give a great shave and last for months. The Gillette blades I have bought in Kiev are appalling it is like shaving with the jagged edge of a broken bottle - and that when the blades are new.

After a week the blades are completely useless. I am fed up with this has anyone else noticed the quality of Gillette blades are atrocious here in Kiev.

Apart from stocking up on blades on my next business trip... does anyone know if  there is a decent brand of shaving apparatus available in this country?

Those with beards need not answer.

Hi, Joe. You are spot on about the Gillette blades. In my case, it is Mach3 Titanium. For me too, they seem to last for ages, though not months, unless you are talking about the pack (available in 4 or 8 blade packs). OK, like all products in Ukraine, you need to be aware that many products are pirated. Since these blades are expensive, it is profitable to copy the original and sell at up to half-price. It would not surprise me at all if some retailers sold pirated goods at full recommended retail price. The quality of the counterfeit blades can be absolute crap but sometimes not too bad. However, given the number of good shaves you can get from the genuine blades, surprisingly, the Gillette should work out to be much more economical!

I am afraid, being Odessa based most of the time, I cannot advise of any particular shop where you can be sure of sourcing
the genuine article.

I understand the irritation of buying poor quality goods in Ukraine, but I buy my Gillette razor blades from the chemist in Lukyanivska's Kvadrat shopping centre, and have never had a problem. They are pretty expensive but make for a comfortable shave.

Well done, Jonathan. That ought to be good enough for friend Joe! These blades are expensive anywhere - in UK, the cheapest I can find is £8.93 ($17) for an 8 pack in Tescos, Morrisons, Asda and a tad more expensive in Boots. However, Boots sell a 12 pack for £11.99.

Nathan see my M&S post in the shopping forum .... while I admit that M&S is hardly designer undies they do sell perfectly adequate boxer shorts ....

hmmmm should I be blushing  - as now the entire Kiev expat community  knows all about my underwear?

I think the whole point is that he was spam-advertising a certain type of underwear - goodness knows what type of demographic search came up with this forum as a good place to advertise boxer shorts.

Or perhaps he googled "Ukrainian girls panties" and didn't quite end up where he wanted....
