Try asking a woman..she will be happy to help you buy clothes

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

I do it all the time Grin My significant other always chooses suits and shirts for me. However, I'd never go to a shoe-store with her, because i would end up having to wear those pointed pixie shoes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Pointed pixie shoes?Huh? Take a woman's opinion on this-- they are totally, absolutely, 100% NOT HOT. They are a turn-off. Yuck!!!!!

I will run that one past Irina. If this is my last post, you will know she did not receive this well!

Decent jeans, Levis, Wranglers and Lee Cooper are not that easy to find here and when you do find them they are outlandishly priced, I never buy jeans here and always wait until Im back in UK.

Clothes in general here are a bad proposition and as for sports gear like Nike and Adidas the prices are a joke!!!

Oh dear the warning was too late .... I am taking one out for lunch on Monday. Although the fact that she looks like a supermodel and speaks perfect English alas cannot be ignored.... must remember not to ask her about clothes.

EnglishM

they have some half price suits in Lagerfeld on the 2nd floor of Globus behind the Ukraine statue in Maidan. $500.

Unfortunately my 44L but slim athletic prowess is not catered for here. I could have put another 20kg on and still got in the trousers. But check it out.

Thanks matlockk ... sounds good to me - although my waist is 33 inches so probably I will have the trouser problem as well.

Although I did find a reasonably priced suit in a small shop in the underground shopping mall near Arena.. I may go back and buy that one in the nest day or two if nothing else appears.

Thanks again for everyone for your help and advice on this one.

Ok I have finally managed to buy a suit that fits about 95% perfectly - 95% being about as good as it gets when you live in Kiev and are 2m tall.

And no it is not a Voronin suit and yes I did get change out of $500 - so all in all a success.

Thanks for your help on this one everyone.

Now another question...more shopping.

I want to buy a copy of "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran in Russian or Ukrainian as my Ukrainian friends here have never heard of this book. I have found giving this book to people in their own language makes them very happy as it is an indescribably beautiful book.

Apart from Petrivka market has anyone got any ideas where I might be able to find this book?

Thanks

Joe

Two good bookshops I know of are the one on the ground floor of Globus (the side under the Maidan fountains) and one on the 'Teatral'na' side of Khreshchatik, about 100 yards before the entrance to Metrograd. I'll have a think and see if I can describe where they are in a slightly less appalling manner!

Thanks Jonathan - I have tried these 2 already but no success - I even have it written down in Russian so there can be no confusion as to which book I want to buy.

Try Empik in Magellan or Pyramida shopping centers.  Pyramida is between Poznicki and Kharkivska metros.

Another success I managed to buy the complete works of Gibran in Ukrainian at the Petrivka book market - I had to ask at about 50 stalls but I got there in the end.

It is for someone`s birthday

Thanks for all the suggestions
