I am hearing rumors of mass layoffs (only spoke with people in Kiev so am not sure if it is country- wide or a "Kiev thing" only).
Is it really so or just rumors?

Ha ha- very funny Smiley)
Well I take it that no one heard anything of this sort in terms of layoffs.
Good then. It's just a couple of people in phone conversations mentioned this to me saying people are being discharged in alarming numbers.

I don't know about being an asset but I would sure look like an "odd one out" there just because
I would try and put "Country first" (the slogan sounds familiar somehow), do something meaningful for the improvement of the lives of people.
I would not care about personal enrichment. I have a personal philosophy, so to speak, that is not compatible with the general environment there and therefore would not be able to function "efficiently".

You would fit right in V - it doesn't function efficiently now.  You would hardly be the "odd one out" as they are all there doing their own thing.......individually  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I have heard the some real estate companies (XXI Century as an example) and local investment banks (Concorde Capital) are laying off people massively.  I believe that their business model depended to a large extent on bank financing and investment banking, both of which are poor shape during the credit crunch (or crisis I would now put it).

Just in case, I can recommend my lawyer Igor, who should be able to help with employment related issues in Ukraine.  He can be contacted at carltonemail@gmail.com or by telephone +38 044 228 98 10.  Igor helped us a lot with employment law matters and very efficient.

Judging by the queues at Borispol passport control inbound today I think they laid off 70% of the border police. 2 and half hours to get through which was longer than the flight from Munich. What a great impression this is to first time investors/visitors etc. The term a national disgrace, springs to mind.

It's an interesting theory called supply and demand. a lot of flights come in the afternoon and they don't have the booths open. I think also they are starting to query the 90/180 rule with a lot of people.

Nah, Customs/Border windows are like typical Ukrainian Bank cash desks.
Usually there are TWO open at busy times, but when it gets REALLY busy
they close one and have just ONE OPEN. Cheesy
