I am currently living in the US but would like to move to Kiev. My wife and step son are from Kiev and they also would like to return to Kiev. It is not that they are unhappy here but they need to be close to my wife's mother and father in that they are getting old and need assistance. I possess over twenty years of experience in transportation management. I do not know Ukrainian or Russian but am developing a basic knowledge. How can I find decent paying work in Kiev with my limited ability to speak the Ukrain language? Someone please help!

I am keenly interested in the answer(s) you get on this subject.  I have been here 9 months now and work teaching English.  It's okay, but I would love to find a decent job where I could actually contribute to an organization and see some prosperity blossom.  If you have capital, maybe you can setup your family with a small business (restaurant, clothing store, etc.) - which seems more and more to be the only opportunity I see for the average, non-Russian-speaking expat.

Ease of entry doesn't seem to be a strong pooint to the business economy here.

My advise to keithsouthaven: put a very brief CV in this forum for a beginning. We have more and more visits from recruting companies as far as I can see form a statistics.

Besides teaching English like ecocks said, which can bring you in around $1000 a month plus a free apartment, your management experience is in high demand in Ukraine.  There are numerous job search engines for Ukraine, some in English and most in Russian.  However, if you have your wife look at these pages and just type english into the word search, you will begin to see what kind of jobs are available that desire strong English knowledge.  Management type jobs, besides computer ones, are the positions most sought after for Expats.  Some require Ukrainian or Russian knowledge, but some do not.  If you have any computer experience, the company I work for in Kiev is hiring technical support supervisors that speak fluent English, and they are getting hired at 7500 hryvnia a month ($1500).

These are just a few of the many job search sites, just put in the city Kiev, and english in the word search.  Also, companies in Kiev will be more willing to hire a foreigner when they know they are going to be living in the city atleast several years, so be sure to mention your wife and your situation, it will go a long way in the hiring process.

Also know however, that in many cases, a job might not be secured until you actually arrive in Kiev, as many companies are hesitant to hire someone that still has to travel to the country.

Just a reminder. Download free employment listings from Kyiv Post weekely

http://www.kyivpost.com/employment/

another useful resource for job seekers is jooble.com.ua web site. This is a dedicated search engine which scans most of active employment sites in Ukraine. According to my experience it works quite good. What I like in it is that you can get most of vacancies available in english language.

I add two pictures to this post.

1. Interface explained.
2. Example of the search results for "transportation management".

I selected "Kyiv" as region and "last 7 days". You can play with key words - it is important to try all possible combinations suitable for your search.

Post you questions if you need any further help. Together we could try to make this tool really helpful :-)

Just use English. Type keywords in a jooble.com.ua and you'll get many vacancies with description in English.
