Zdrastvuite!

I am a final year Russian undergraduate at Exeter University, England.

I will move to Ukraine next summer, and am starting looking for a accommodation and employment. My Russian is already very good - I have just returned from a year-long placement in Yaroslavl and Tver, Russia - and will have improved after a further year's study.

It will be my third trip to Ukraine, as I have close friends in Luganskaya oblast'.

I am in the process of translating my resume into Russian, and finding a Ukrainian teacher so I am better prepared for when I arrive. I would be very grateful for any information, about companies in Ukraine who are looking for young and bilingual staff.

At this stage I'd be grateful for any opportunity, I'm not in the best position to be choosy! I work well with people, but I'd be prepared just to make coffee if I could live reasonably and improve my Russian.

Maybe I should read more about internships?

You can try to download the pdf files with job offers from Kyiv Post weekly. You can find Employment link on the website kpnews.com in the PDF Download section on the front page. That will give you some basic info to start searching. Of course if you didn't do that already :-)

Some thougts:

No-brainer - Take a TEFL course and get a job teaching English.  You can spend evenings, mid-day and weekends working on your Ukranian and Russian.

More Challenging - Find a business that needs a part-timer for occasional translator work.  One of the rental agancies in Kiev had a part-time translator (American russian language student) on call this summer.  Hard part will be finding an agency that has no English-speaking capability and is willing to use you.

The Kiev Post has positions for business, technical and education but without knowing your degree and background, we probably cannot help much more.  The TEFL gig is probably easiest assuming you get a good TEFL course under your belt plus they will be prepared to help you with a long-term visa and work permit.
