I have been working in the direct marketing industry for over 14yrs (mainly Telco & Retail) and am moving permanently to either Russia or Ukraine.  I am keen to offer the best of my experience to help organisations prosper on a full-time or contract basis anywhere in Russia or Ukraine, preferably Kiev, Kharkov, St. Petersburg or Moscow.  Whilst not a Russian speaker, I am willing and able to learn and currently have some limited knowledge of the language.

Specific areas of expertise include: segmentation, campaign automation, predictive modelling, optimisation, customer management, retention, acquisition, campaign design, analysis.  Kindly drop me a note if interested and I will send over my CV.

Many thanks, regards,

D. A. Berry

You should have a good chance if you can convince anybody here.  I live in Odessa (maybe you'll have to look on a map of Ukraine if you are not that familiar with the geography) and it is quite apparant that any advertising campaignes here (unless political) are done regionally and not on a national basis.

It took me sometime to identify all the suppliers I now use in Ukraine, some of whom are in Kiev (despite competitors being in Odessa) because I could not find them here anywhere.  Not in papers like Aviso, or Marketer (advertising papers), by word of mouth, by internet search.  I have now reached a point whereby I receive good discounts from my Kyiv suppliers and do not want to change to local Odessa suppliers as now there is no financial benefit to me anymore, which is a shame as I wanted to benefit my local ecconomy by priority.

I would approach the "Big Board" companies initially who have a large market share of advertising/marketing revenues (without any direct sales follow up I would add) and look at the companies who are exporting outside the Ukraine also who could benefit from your experience (and language).  At present figures quoted for export are 56% of Ukr GDP to EU, 26% to Russia and the remainder to "Others".  How accurate they are I don't know but I took them from an English language newspaper called the Kyiv Post.   www.kyivpost.com  This newspaper may also give you some leads allbeit cold leads, but then again cold calling I would imagine is nothing new to you  Cheesy
TV is (as always) another powerful tool but I know only people at Odessa TV, TV Dom (a chanel which specialising in house/appartment/office sale) and HTB (or NTV) in Moscow.
I also know many of the national real estate (and most of the local) real estate agents in Ukraine who again seem to work not even on a regional basis but an office basis (all out to get the others commission).  If any of these people can be of help to you I would (having spoken with them first so things are not so cold when you call and ascertaining that they will take your call) gladly PM you names and numbers.  I would point out that at least some basic Russian would benfit you as all here understand it even though Ukraine is officially the No1 language.  If it is a problem to you, you can email your CV and I will translate it (accurately) into Russian for you and return it (gratis of course) but if your PC does not have cyrillics it will show only as numerous square boxes when you open the document.  Alternatively I can translate it and print it and post it to you so you can fax it or photocopy it at your convenience.  You stand much more chance getting through a paper sift if they understand what it says!!  Sadly I cannot translate it into Ukraine as I can understand it (due to similarities) but not speak it but Russian will cirfice initially.

If I can assist you any further I will gladly do so, but I live in a location not on your "wish list". Roll Eyes

Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated!  Actually, Odessa is as much a possibility as Kiev; I have been there a few times.  I've been travelling to and from Ukraine for 5yrs now, having picked up some basic colloquial Russian; although I'd still consider myself a newbie and understand more than I can speak.

Above the line advertising is not really my bag, my focus is being able to turn data into insight for direct/database marketing and campaign and customer management.  Types of data driven campaigns can range from telecoms product launch testing, retail catalogue sales programmes, automotive after sales promotional campaigns, and recently near prime credit card targeting.

Most of my work is typically realised through the outbound telemarketing, online and direct mail channels.  Predominantly, my goal is to get the biggest return from the smallest marketing investment by optimising existing marketing operations.  For some, the online channel represents the biggest direct marketing opportunities, for others, carefully targeted telemarketing calls is the only way to go.  My background is all about who to target, when we target them, and with what.

Thanks for the advice, I've been reading Kyivpost regularly since 2003, and subscribe.  I'm putting together some letters now, but it would seem that language is still the main barrier to entry.  Clearly, I must address this one way or the other.  Thanks for the offer of translation, I will take you up on that and will forward my CV over the weekend.   I have the Cyrillic character set installed so no worries there, I'm no stranger to the online translation sites too! Smiley

I'll be in Ukraine from 5th March for 3-6wks, it's possible that I can take the overnight to Odessa from Kharkov.  Thanks again for your input, great start.

You are welcome.

I know only one bank manager on a personal basis here and she to be fair does not have the "corporate clout" you are looking for.

I do however know a fairly senior guy who lives near me in the field of telecoms (mobile) including mast erection etc. etc if you think it would help, however he understands absolutley no English and at 57 years old is probably unwilling to learn  Grin but I can find out who is in control of their marketing/sales etc and get a name for you.

I do know (personally) the bosses of Odessagas and the electrical equivalent which may (who knows) enter the private sector from state ownership eventually if the current governments intended policies come to fruition.  It may therefore open up a massive "infratstructure" infight for customers should some rivals enter the arena eventually, with telecoms being no exception.  Although I personally see no difference between electric supply/gas supply/telecom supply as a civil engineer when it comes to the infrastructure and meeting customer demand - therefore a targetted marketing and sales campaign for consumer loyalty/consumer gain here may also be a consideration for you in the future.  It is not really my "bag" so to speak.

I would also try and "hit up" Mattlock, ecocks, silverbullet, britkyiv and all the other regular posters who are in Kiev (apologies to any missed - no offence ment) and try the British Business set up in Kyiv (I forget the title but it is a networking organisation) which these guys can help you with.  Unfortunately for me, with it being in Kyiv, it is not much use to me as I try not to go there unless I have to.

Anyway, when you are ready PM me and I will send you my email address and sort your CV into Russian expediciously.
