so Europe is primitive because we do not have such laws?
a firm MUST be free to hire a woman if they want
I guess I am naive but I am wondering how this hiring process works. I mean do they discuss that part of her "duties" during the interview, or after a girl is hired. What is they hire a good -looking girl but after she is hired and the boss approaches her about this thing she refuses, then what? Fired on the spot? I am wondering about the mechanism so to speak.

My previous girlfriend in Moscow nused to get depressed even at the thought of interviews, she said that she was normally offered 2 salaries at the interview, one for normal secretarial duties and a much higher one if she in principle agreed tosleep with the boss when he so liked, she said that this was a normal thing in Moscow, sadly some girls take the 2nd option.

Vera dunno what your projections/fantasies are suggesting you, they wanna hire a good-looking girl because it is always better to have a good-looking girl especially for desk work there is no trick, no boss, etc... yes in messed up countries like Russia (Ukraine too?), you may even get fired for that. not in italy where if a girl complain to the authorities for sexual harassment she will get rich.

your girlfriend has lied to you.
infact to say that such thing is "normal in Moscow" (I am talking about the BS 2 salaries) it is njust extremely childish
a "boss" in Moscow can have a whole bunch of 500$ month secretaries without having to stress himself or offering different salaries

"My fantasies" ) I like your way of putting it. I wish those were just my fantasies (if I wanted to talk about my fantasies I would switch to a different forum, as I do not find posting in this one appropriate (ha ha ). Anyway I guess you are right that good looking front desk girl is desirable, however, I am all for competence rather then looks.

She is not the only girl in Moscow who said this, so are you suggesting that they all lie, even some men will confirm it is the case so I dont really know where you are coming from with this post. For the record that was in 2002, its very questionable whether things have changed that much since you spent a few weeks there to make your judgement. Stick to asking your normal tedious questions about banal topics rather than trying to question what is already common knowledge in Moscow. Out of interest have you ever made any desicions or made any conclusions in your life without consulting a message board first? ? Just curious My previous girlfriend in Moscow nused to get depressed even at the thought of interviews, she said that she was normally offered 2 salaries at the interview, one for normal secretarial duties and a much higher one if she in principle agreed tosleep with the boss when he so liked, she said that this was a normal thing in Moscow, sadly some girls take the 2nd option.

He'll get back to you on that one...
Back to the "sleeping with the boss to get a job" discussion, I'd imagine that a girl wouldn't be hired if the boss wasn't sure that she would, um, carry out her duties properly, so I don't think there are to many situations when someone is hired but then refuses to go through with it.
When my girlfriend was looking for a job in Kyiv she was invited to many "interviews" after working hours - but didn't go. We all jumped upon that Vlasta bloke when his message first appeared - it's easy to tell which jobs are genuine and which aren't.

Exactly Jon.
There are many slimy men about who use their money in quite questionable ways and hiring girls for their fun in the guise of a "job" is still alive and well I am sure.
Most girls can spot it a while, particularly if the interview as you say is conducted in particular place (Egoist Cafe in Pecherska seems to be a common one).
Sadly a minority will agree on the salary alone, its a way of life here and as unsavoury as it seems to me, I just have to accept it as something I dont like and can do nothing about!

I have placed a couple of gals in PA positions and have always stressed that this better be straight business to the client. One client commmented he had interviewed 14 gals in two days and felt like he owned a strip club. He was foreign and shocked at what was deemed appropriate business attire for an interview.

PS. i think all employers should be free to state the gender of the worker required. as far as i know most of EU allows that...whats the big deal?
To my Knowledge in England, it would be Illegal to state the Required Age, Sex and No Disrespect, but if a 60 Year Old man came for the Interview in a Wheelchair and had the Necessary Qualifications, The works would have to Explain why they chose to employ someone else rather than him. And Shops and Premises in England have been Forced to Close down if they do Not have Wheelchair Access!!. It is similar in the good old USA - the land of the free and in Scandinavia! In France they discriminate by also requesting a photo in the job application and the same trend has now started in Kyiv. Jobs only for the young and beautiful it seems, especially for female applicants but no surprise to see this happening in Ukraine. As for France 10 in style but zero in content. Sorry those from France reading this, I am no fan of your country.

I have not spent few weeks in Russia but 18 months most of which spent as a corporate teacher in banks, credit companies, etc... believe it or not i met many PAs/secretaries/receptionists.
guess what? they were all normal individual and their bossess too!!!
also it is naive to think that a top manager (or similar) needs to beg a secretary/PAs for sex/other services, given he covers a high position and he lives in morally devastated - money driven Russia he can probably shag most of his staff without having to beg for that at a job interview.
so if people are saying that the RULE for passing a job interviews imply sleeping with your boss, those are just projections.
PS. I have lived in Moscow, Moscow is a city requiring professional competences not just BJ from hot PAs

and i have never heard about interviews being carried in cafes, serious business usually have HR depts and managers and interviews are carried at the firm. this was the rule in Moscow.
RJM, surely you know that many girls do not mind to spare sexual favours in exchange of a little payrise or some more consideration. you seem just to blame the male gender LOL LOL

First, I do recruiting interviews in cafes and restaurants frequently. The only challenge is finding a quiet spot. In the US it is not exactly normal but it also doesn't cause any big concern when an interview is scheduled in a restaurant or even a hotel suite. Often the manager is between appointments or getting away from the interruptions (phone, people, email, etc.) of the office. It is particularly common for many sales positions involving travel and customer contact since you may be interviewing in a city where the company has no office facilities.
Second, it may be "normal" here, or at least a bit more common, but it isn't in the US. Sure it happens occasionally but it is a long way from normal. It is perhaps understandable but still sad as a statement for the society.
