Moving to Kiev

First hello to evryone!

I just found out about this forum in my research for information on how to expat to Kiev.

I am a french working in the UK and wanting to move to Kiev for personal and professional reason.

I am kind of wondering what are the tips to succeed. Before making the move, i would like to find a job before (finance - consultancy - investment) and I wonder if anyone would have any tips or in the best case, a job!
 
I don t speak ukrainian or russia (jsut few words as my wife is ukrainian!). Do you people living there think that i can still find a position ?

PS: is there a community of expats in kiev ? is it active and united?

Welcome Max - unfortunately I cannot help you with regards to Kyiv being 4 hours due south by car.

I can say however, that a knowledge of Ukrainian and or Russian will be almost a pre-requisite to work in the roles you describe either for a foreign or native business as you will undoubtedly be "client facing" to some degree.

You will also need to understand the laws of Ukraine relating to those fields of enterprise you mentioned, which the vast majority of Ukrainians do not understand (even in their own language) and which can change without warning or publication to the professionals in these areas. 

I do not want to put you off coming here in any shape or form, Ukraine is a fantastic country and well worth the effort to come and try your luck BUT you may find it hard to find a job before you come (and your CV would have to be in Ukrainian or Russian for most to even read it)........unless you get lucky with some of the members here in the banking sector

I would say from my humble experience the standard requirement is a cv in russian AND in english

Why Moscow had many people working in finance/business/investments who did not speak a word of russian and apparently in Kiev russian/ukrainian become a pre-requisite?

I was refering to the "Consultancy" part of the OP - very difficult to consult with/for someone if they do not understand you or you them without an interpreter.....at which point hiring a local makes more sense.  If you are sat behind a desk "bean counting all day" with no need to be client facing, then the only language you need is that of accountancy - figures speak for themselves
