Hi All,
Just wanted to provide an introduction: I'm not actually an expat in Ukraine yet (Canadian living in wonderful Canada), but considering a 3 month to two year work stint in Dontesk...I am also planning to marry my sweetheart, who also happens to live in Donetsk.
I'm currently doing some reading and serching of the forum so I don't ask too many repeat questions, but I do hope to get some advice on immigration, wife ex-migration etc.
Two questions right off the bat: Any Canadians here? and Anyone in the Donetsk region?
Best Regards, Jackomo

Hello and welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, being UK and UA based, I cannot help other than to give you the link to the appropriate information on the Canadian Embassy, Kyiv website. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-who.aspIn our case, my wife was able to visit UK under what was known as a "Fiancée" visa. This was granted for 6 months, during which time we had to marry but since we had known one another for years, it was a formality. The other option was to marry in Ukraine, leave and have had to wait some considerable time for my wife's arrival. Since you are planning on marrying in Ukraine, it seems you ought to be able to complete all the requirements in Kyiv without too much trouble if you are staying for a while. My wife and I wish you every success and much happiness together.

Welcome to the forum. There are a few Canadians here, although I am not one of them. "Phaser" is definately Canadian and I believe Moscow_Editor is also but I may be wrong in that regard Anyway I am sure they will identify themselves to you...............enjoy

Well, I've pretty much taken the plunge, and am commited to a short term expat assignment in Donetsk starting in February...fist priority is to learn the language (although I have no illusions about how hard that will be). I'm concerned about being able to find recreational activities I can particiapate in without speaking russian (for example, I take Karate, curl, play hockey etc). Does anyone know of any english speaking groups that get togehter for sports, or have any other suggesitons (besides: learn russian - I'm already working on that, thank you).

Phasar is surely Canadian but he got thrown out of the embassy for Canada day! For smoking Not funny Rob Heh, when I first read "For Smoking" I thought it was in anser to Jackomo asking "I'm concerned about being able to find recreational activities I can particiapate in without speaking russian"... And I thought to myself, "Self, it's true, smoking is a recreational activity one can participate in here with out speaking Russian".... Thank god it's afternoon coffee time... Oh, and welcome Jackomo and good luck in everything
