Hi all

If you can believe it, this is the first time I have ever posted a message on a chat forum but I think it will be the first of many firsts in the coming months.

My husband has just landed a great job in Lviv and I will be joining him out there in circa 3 months time.  I can see there there is a great expat community in Kiev but I cannot seem to find any notes from anyone in Lviv.  Have I just not looked hard enough?

I'm really looking forward to what is bound to be a wonderful adventure but would love any tips on meeting people in Lviv when I get there!

Thanks in advance to any advice given.

Mariamne SK

A warm welcome from me too, Mariamne.

I am sure we will uncover some Lviv expats sooner or later!

Welcome  Wink

You are very lucky to be able to live in such a nice city as Lviv, In my view its much nicer than Kiev and the atmospere there is very nice and more slower tahn other cities, particularly in the centre at weekends.

I asked the question a while back if any posters lived in Lviv but got no replys, we all seem to be sadly Kiev or Odesa based.

You will love Lviv so update us when you get there

Anyway welcome and enjoy  Smiley

Welcome Mariamne,
yes indeed I'm from Lviv. Sorry for the late reply but I had been without Internet access for a while.
I can confirm that Lviv is a beautiful city and I hope you will have a great time here.
Just sent you a PM.

Mariamne, I thought you might be interested in a few, well 50 photographs from around Lviv which confirms andbod's statement that Lviv is a beautiful city. They belong to a friend, Yannis, who owns AirSun Holidays in UK.

Enjoy!

We hope to visit Lviv sometime in late summer/early autumn.

Wow, thanks Carlusha.

I actually visited Lviv in February with my husband.  We both found it a really wonderful place and I have been boasting to friends that we are off to stay somewhere even more beautiful than Prague and with better food (always important in my book!).

I have to admit that my photos aren't nearly as good as your friend's, please pass on my compliments to the photographer.

The guy used a simple Ł89 ($170) Panasonic digital set to 6mgp but the photographs have to be shrunk for posting on the web.

Our forum has a "Gallery" (see the menubar or http://expatua.com/forum/index.php?action=gallery where some of us have posted photos.

Hi Mariamne,

Found this site while researching on the net about the publisher of the Lviv Today - a new English monthly journal on life in Lviv. I am based in Lviv and though Ukrainian myself, feel almost as an expat considering I have just moved back here to start up a new company after 8 years of living abroad (EU mostly).

Lviv is a wonderful city - welcome!

Volodja, thank you!  I'll let you know when I am coming to town so we can hopefully go for a drink.  It's not going to be for a few months yet but I am already looking forward to it!

I was in Lviv about a month ago and picked up that "Lviv Today" magazine in the "Shakespeare" bar and was very impressed with it, excellent publication and the fact its free is amazing!

I like Lviv (rus. Lvov, pol. Lwów) also as I can easily communicate in polish there; almost everybody understand polish and 60-70% speak also - sometimes it's really beautiful polish...
Anyway, really nice place (if you don't mind traffic jams and poor roads:)
