Cogito Ergo Sum

« on: September 03, 06:45 AM »

In the past 2 weeks, the former Pakistani President resigned.  Now today:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article4665991.ece

Pakistan, boardering with Afghanistan and having a "Georgian/Russian" frozen conflict with India over disputed territory (sorry for the geography lesson) is dissending into chaos.

Already a country which cannot control Taliban attacks on NATO convoys, (thus making Russia the prefered route for NATO......until recently) or stop itself being a heroin route prior to the resignation of the "Western favouring" a long serving President, it is also a nuclear power which has detinated a nuclear warhead in the past.

Today, an assassination attempt on the new Prime Minister.

Another possible headache looms as the power base in Pakistan errodes......this one with a nuclear capability.  Roll Eyes

Agree!  Potential repercussions of instability are daunting.

It's a powder keg, and could explode, anytime.

Great timing............not:

Pakistan has elected a new and unpopular leader yesterday, Kashmir is experiencing major seperatist protests and now  Roll Eyes, this has been allowed to happen at this particular time, which will make Pakistan even more "jittery".

I placed this in this thread as it does correspond with Pakinstan:

How much are these people paid to state the obvious?  Roll Eyes

6 years in, absolutely no progress what so ever and absolutely no chance of sorting out the problem.......as there never was at the outset.

Attempted containment was about all that could ever be achieved and that is about all that can be said has been achieved (to a degree).

Not a snowball's chance in hell of "winning" so who are they trying to kid?  Huh

I don't really believe all these conspiracy theories that the smartest men on the planet (due to that simple fact they're USeses) with almost unlimited resources (as they can just print money while other have to earn them), experience (I cannot recall a year since WWII when the US wouldn't fight yet another Axis of Evil (tm)) and intelligence can so easily and so often fail. It's much more logical to suggest that if declared aims have not been achieved will all that support this may also mean that declared aims have nothing to do with real ones isn't it? Sometimes, the tail wags the dog, you know what I mean, don't you?

Well guess we saw this coming when the thread started at the beginning of the month.

Pakistani soldiers fired shots into the air over a period of several hours to stop US soldiers entering Pakistani sovereign territory.

I cannot believe the Pentagon, after the official outrage last week from Pakistan simply chose to ignore it and carry on regardless this week.  There is a massive difference between fighting several hundred, or even several thousand "extremists" in the boarder territories than turning the entire nation of Pakistan against efforts in Afghanistan, especially given the continual political instability and under current there.
