Yevloyev's website is said to be one of the most visited for Ingush news
The owner of an internet site critical of the Russian authorities in the volatile region of Ingushetia has been shot dead in police custody.

Magomed Yevloyev, owner of the ingushetiya.ru site, was a vocal critic of the region's administration.

The Russian prosecutor's office said an investigation into the death had been launched, Russia media report.

A post on Yevloyev's site says he was detained by police after landing at the airport of the main town, Nazran.

The website owner was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Anger at death of Kremlin critic

 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7591509.stm

Yevloyev's website is said to be one of the most visited for Ingush news
Opposition leaders in Russia's volatile Ingushetia region have condemned the killing of the owner of a website critical of the Kremlin.

Magomed Yevloyev was arrested and later shot after getting off the same flight as the local, Kremlin-backed leader.

Russian prosecutors say they have opened a criminal investigation into the case.

But opposition leaders say the killing is part of Russia's policy of "open genocide" towards the Ingush people.

Yeh, read this yesterday - according to the report I read (and I forget which newspaper but a Brit one) he is "alleged" to have tried to take a gun from a police officer when being detained and during the following struggle managed to get shot in the head.  Makes a change from radioactive isotopes I guess.  Embarrassed

The mask is off of Putin's thuggish regime.  This is sad but no surprise.
