A Newspaper Quote i found.

The prime minister-designate, 46, is wealthy, a former deputy prime minister, and gas magnate who made her fortune in questionable circumstances  Roll Eyes in the mid-90s when she was closely associated with the former prime minister, Pavel Lazarenko. He was recently found guilty of extortion and money-laundering  Shocked by a Californian court.

In 2004 the Russian authorities issued an international arrest warrant for her, alleging bribery of Russian officials.

Despite her nationalist rhetoric, however, Ms Tymoshenko's native language is Russian, not Ukrainian, and she is from the pro-Russian eastern area of Dnipropetrovsk.

And another Quote

Nowadays, it is still rather difficult to give a detailed and exact portrait of Yulia Tymoshenko. She entered the politics in the mid-1990s and since that time managed to become a multi-billionaire, worked as prime minister, was sacked and afterwards still got what she wanted. She tries to look like a peasant girl with a plait against the back of her head. But Tymoshenko's peasant look is somewhat misleading. She is in fact a very wealthy woman, who gained her fortune in highly debated circumstances before entering politics. She made the transition from a member of Ukraine's disliked new moneyed elite to a skilled marshal of the anger of the public square three years ago, when she mounted an energetic, if ultimately unsuccessful, campaign to topple the increasingly loathed president, Leonid Kuchma. Her original entry into politics came earlier; but her Hromada party was seen then as only one of a rash of factions cynically created by the new tycoons to advance their business interests.

The lady has an Estimated Wealth of $6 Billion  i think i read Somewhere.

With a bit of luck her she will be gone soon as the PM as they do noit have an overall majority anymore as 2 deputies resigned last week.

BYUT and its populistic views simply do not have the people within its party to steer Ukraine on a stable path, Both times they have been in power inflation has rocketed as well as countless other problems they create, last months Mayoral debacle was orchestrated by them as well.

The saddest thing is there is not much else around thats much better and that saddens most Ukrainian people I know to the bone.

Am I the only one on here who yearns for the stability of the Kuchma years.

As someone said to me the other day, Ukraine has now become more democractic but had to trade in stability in order to get it!

Inflation is Worldwide Now,not Just Ukraine.
Causes;
OIL Prices,
Wage Increases,
The Cost of Borrowing Interst Rate,
An Increase in Money being Spent,
Devaluation of the Currency-Import Prices.

Real Inflation Near 10% in Great Britain
Feb. 12, 2008 (EIRNS)—A survey by the Daily Telegraph revealed that British families are paying 1,300 pounds more a year for basic household bills, including food, fuel, and energy costs. This comes to over 100 pounds a month. Last year monthly expenses amounted to 1,200 pounds and now has increased 1,307 pounds.

Moreover, official figures from the Office of National Statistics revealed that prices paid by firms for wholesale goods such as food and oil increased by 5.7% in January alone. Food factories are paying 8.5% more for materials they have to purchase, the highest increase since records were kept. Analysts warn these costs will increase even further. They report the price of a dozen eggs increased from 1.75 to 2.45 pounds in the last year. A package of butter increased 62%, and a kilo of basmati rice by 39%. These equate to an increase of 324 to 527 pounds a year per family just for food.

The Guardian reports that the Office of National Statistics has found that the annual inflation rate in ingredients for home produced food is 36%. Raw materials cost on the average of 18.9 % more than last year. Crude oil is up 70%.

The paper reports that the official inflation rate, now at 2.2%, is meaningless since it includes several luxury items such as electronics, plasma TV and the like where prices have dropped because fewer people are buying them.

We have been here before. The 1970s witnessed the onset of what we came to call stagflation - high inflation combined with weak economic activity and high unemployment. Then, as now, the proximate cause of difficulty was large increases in energy and commodity prices emanating from abroad - about which we could do nothing. Then, our initial response was to try to protect output and employment. The result was surging inflation which, at the peak, reached 27pc. Shocked

I had no idea of her highly questional world class enterprising business life.  In USA she is put on a pedestal, and all we hear is how wonderful she is.  This gave me a much better perspective on the real Yuliya

Your Yulia has also ruined many honest Ukrainians in her past life. I am not going to back that statement up because the innocents fear for their safety.

Only when the cow Ukraine ceases to provide milk will you start to see more honest politicians, officials, bureaucrats and rubber stamp wielders.

At what point did I say I "supported" him?

I just stated that the latter years where far more stable than what has gone on since, thats not a statement of my endorsement, just merely an observation.

For the record, all the main players today in Ukr potitics are a waste of space, for those that dont know it Yushenko/Timoshenko are just old ministers from the Kuchma regime so why did anyone expect much to change when they got power!

OK, point taken, rj! ! apologise. In the Kuchma years, the press were effectively gagged and most people had no idea what was going on behind their backs. For me, the Orange Revolution meant a free press although I am not totally convinced that is quite the situation ................ yet.

Many respectable news sources, printed and internet, now seek the out the wrongs in Ukraine today. Television and radio has quite a way to go because many of the stations are owned by the very people who would normally be news themselves for the wrong reasons.
