Fourteen hours of battle and five minutes lunchbreak after which I did the other interview for the ITV3
journalists today (for the 'other' Making of Sharpe mega-trailer) saw me return to the accommodation
somewhat dry. I mixed a cold beer with half a bottle of cold lemonade and drank it straight off : the
resulting belch was of such a volume that it temporarily stopped traffic in Khajaraho.

Just love your Sharpe updates, Campers.

Although your man in India should be careful about belching in public - he could be mistaken
for the dreaded tribe of Afgan Burpas  Roll Eyes that frequently attack the Khyber Pass.

Let me set the scene - The British outpost on the Khyber Pass has been attacked:

Lady Joan Ruff-Diamond: Oh! How awful! What can have happened ?
Captain Keene: I don't like making guesses, but I wouldn't be surprised if there hadn't been a spot of foul play here.
Missionary: Foul play? Look at them! Lying around like a lot of unwanted cocktail snacks!
Private Jimmy Widdle: Ginger!
Missionary: Who is?
Private Jimmy Widdle: He is. Ginger, my mate.
Sergeant-Major MacNutt: Private Hale ?
Private Jimmy Widdle: Yes, Ginger Hale. Hello, Ginge. It's me, Jimmy. Your old mate, Jimmy Widdle.
Private Ginger Hale: Jimmy? Is it you? My old mate?
Private Jimmy Widdle: Ginge, mate! How do you feel?
Private Ginger Hale: Oh, not so good. I think I've been wounded.
Private Jimmy Widdle: Only here and there.
Private Ginger Hale: Jimmy, I can trust you. Now, give it to me straight. Am I going to be all right?
Private Jimmy Widdle: Of course not, Ginge mate.
Private Ginger Hale: I'm not going to be all right?
Private Jimmy Widdle: Well, how could you be, with half a dozen dirty great holes in you? You've had it.
Private Ginger Hale: You're a bleeding fine mate, I must say.
Private Jimmy Widdle: What do you mean? You asked me to give it to you straight.
Private Ginger Hale: Yeah, but I didn't mean you to... tell it too me straight....you horrible little man, you!
Sergeant-Major MacNutt: That's enough! Widdle, you're a great little comfort to a dying man, aren't you? Now listen, Hale, it's Sergeant-Major MacNutt. What happened, lad?
Private Ginger Hale: They attacked about a half-hour ago, Sir. Hundreds of them.
[He belches]
Private Ginger Hale: Burpas! They... they... oooh!
[Hale faints. Sergeant-Major MacNutt shakes his head sadly]
Private Jimmy Widdle: Oh, no! Ginge! Ginge, mate! I'm sorry, I... Poor old mate!
[Widdle gently covers Hale's body with a greatcoat. Hale throws it off]
Private Ginger Hale: That's right! Bleeding well suffocate me !

What a classic British film, that was - they don't make them like that anymore .......  Roll Eyes

Managed to find Sharpe series 1 and 2 today with Russian translation.  The 'B&C' is already engrossed  Smiley

Even better the translation is exact, not like the normal translation into Russian from english speaking films.  Need to find series 3 now  Roll Eyes, before my this last one comes over from "Blighty".

I suppose I will have to see if we can find Hornblower too now  (Roll Eyes) to fill the gap when she runs out of Sharpe.  I just hope it is translated as accurately as these.  Undecided

Nick, I can get your Harry's Game, complete set, from HMV for £11.99, post free. Looking on eBay, by the time you add the postage, there is no difference in prices.

Let me know if you wish me to source it on your behalf.

By the way, the original Sharpe's set is pushing £100 for the complete set!!!

Hornblower - many on eBay. I wouldn't know whether there were Russian language subtitles or audio without asking each seller.

For example -

Well I never - looks like me & Sharpe have made a conquest with your other half ( B&C ? )    Wink Cheesy Grin

You can order the Hornblower, complete collection boxed set from Amazon.co.uk on offer for £25.98

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hornblower-Complete-Collection-Ioan-Gruffudd/dp/B000GLKNTG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1208616145&sr=8-1

Interesting that you can ( by looking around ) get the Russian language versions to the Sharpe & Hornblower
tv series. So I wonder whether the magnificent Sharpe books by Bernard Cornwell are printed in russian ?

Also available the BBC version of War and Peace ( 1972 ), starring Anthony Hopkins which was
a great series, recently repeated in the UK and includes a memorable signature tune, the
old Tsarist russian national anthem  - which I posted today in Back to the Napoleonic Wars
under my piece on the Congress of Erfurt.

That should keep the B&C happy !!!  Cheesy  Wink

You can also get the Sergei Bondarchuk Russian version, with English subtitles, from Amazon or HMV. I bought the BBC version in Schipol of all places for about £15, but with Dutch subtitles!

I agree - the best version of War & Peace was the one produced by Sergei Bondarchuk - in russian
and with a cast of thousends. Also reputed to be the most expensive film ever produced, eclipsing even
the most glamourous Hollywood movies.  Roll Eyes

Good news for all Sharpe fans  Cool  Cool

Sharpes Peril will be screened in Britain on ITV1 on sunday the 2nd and 9th November, each episode
( normally 2 hour episodes ) will be followed by special documentaries called The Making of Sharpes
Peril for those behind the scenes interviews with your hero's Sean Bean and Daragh O'Malley ( alias
Harper )

According to sources close to the British high command, a special feature on Sharpes Peril will
appear in the BBC's Radio Times, in the first November edition - so watch this space.
