Just when you thought it was quite, amoungst the winding country lanes and sleepy villages
and hedgerows of hampshire, england.
A desparate struggle began in the fields and lanes near Winchester, last weekend as King Charles,
Cavaliers do battle against the Parliamentarian roundheads at the Battle of Cheriton, 1644.
As the two armies of the English Civil War fight for control of southern england, with the
fate of the regions richest ports of Southampton and Portsmouth at stake.  Shocked
Intrepid reporters from the Southern Daily Echo ( embedded within the Parliamentarian army )
brings this exclusive tv report of the Battle of Cheriton.
Sorry expats - but Pompey-Niks, other half just loves my exclusive reports.  Wink  Wink

Heres a couple of photos of a previous battle in 2005 - this ones from the Royalist army position,
looking towards the Parliamentarians, just as the roundhead cavalry charge their right flank:

Royalist cannon opening fire on the Parliamentarians:

The conflict continues through the streets of neighbouring town, Arlesford as another
cannon opens fire on the enemy:
