Heres a big chance to see Napoleonic diplomacy in action - with a special peace conference and
congress of the two Emperors in the fortified city of Erfurt, in eastern Germany.
All to celebrate the famous Congress of Erfurt in 1808 between Napoleon Bonaparte of France and the
Emperor, Alexander the 1st of Russia.
This will be the biggest social gathering on the Napoleonic calender with re-enactors and dignitaries
from all over Europe. With a European nations soldiers bivouac, in the Citadel.
The Congress of Erfurt will be taking place over 3 days on friday, saturday & sunday 26, 27 & 28th
September 2008, so best to book early if you are thinking of attending this event.
As I said before several royal guests are expected to attend including Napoleon Bonaparte, a look alike
representing the russian emperor, etc.
The extensive progam includes several military parades throughout the day, followed by period plays,
concerts and imperial balls in Erfurt university halls, in the evening.

The congress of princes from 1808, where besides the kings and princes, they were accompanied
by thousands of soldiers from nearly every European state, who will be encamped in and around Erfurt.
It was an important, totally European event.
The two main persons of the congress, the French emperor Napoleon I. and the Russian Czar Alexander I.,
discussed questions of war and peace in Europe. At the same time during the historical meeting of the
Erfurt Congress of the princes of 1808 - a large bivouac of military-historical groups, representing
numerous napoleonic groups from many European countries will camp, on the area of the citadel on the Peter
mountain from 25th to 28th September 2008. Therefore thousends of participants in historical uniforms
will come from France, Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Italy, Hungary, the Czech republic,
Poland, Russia, the Baltic States and Germany.
In the anniversary celebrations besides the historical military groups, representatives from the diplomatic
agencies of France, Russia, Great Britain, Austria, Poland, Italy, Spain and other countries as well as
representatives of the kings and principalities that took part in the congress, are expected.
Over the four days, their will be an extensive program of events, with numerous meetings in the citadel
on the Peter mountain, as well as other historical places in the city to Erfurt.
The bivouac will take place on the area of the historical citadel on the Erfurt Peter mountain.
To say that this event is big - is putting it mildly, only Richard Sharpe could feel out of place in
such illustrious company.
