So this is quite the random post, eh?  How much does a retainer cost in Ukraine?  Perhaps some of you might have had to replace yours or perhaps have children who have had one?  I'm not sure whether or not I should purchase mine here or not... Thanks in advance!

I have a student I can ask who is an orthodontist but this is holiday season for a couple of weeks and not sure when I will see her again.  She practices at a private clinic.

Retainer....in the UK I believe you are talking about a "brace" for straightening teeth?

In Odessa, our lad had one fitted for 6 months - total cost including all check-ups and tightening, loosening etc. etc. cost 250 UAH.

Hope that helps  Smiley

A retainer is the device used after braces and bands.  It's to make sure that the teeth do not revert back to their original position.  Is that what you had in mind?  Man... 250 UAH?  A set of braces here costs thousands of dollars... Smiley

American dentistry is ridiculously expensive!!  Costs that I've recently encountered -

Deep Cleaning (tooth scaling) - $800

Filling - $216

Wisdom Teeth Removal - $1600

Regular Cleaning with Xrays - $160

Root Canal - $1,000-1,600

You  know, a tooth scaling takes about two hours.  The dentist doesn't even do it.  A hygienist does, and they make, on average, $30 an hour.  It takes no costly expenses.  It takes water, a shot and two hours.  $800?!?!?!?!

I think that many would agree that healthcare is one of the biggest issues for this election.  I'm not a huge Michael Moore fan, as I feel that he blows things out of proportion, but his film "Sicko" is truly a great video that nails American healthcare right on the head.  Check it out sometime.  Smiley

I have to say back in 2005/06 when I lived in Moscow we all used to hop over the boarder for dental treatment to Ukraine as it was a fraction of the cost.  There were long threads about it on ExpatRU from those days............ah memories  Cheesy Cheesy CheesySmiley
