No on the drugs (see above).  Also, that $1250 is on one website for the full plan (with ambulance, housecalls and med-evac coord) but I paid $900 when I signed up last year.  There is a lower cost plan without the home visits and ambulance provision and corporate/group plans are available.

Another question on the insurance plans would be where I have to obtain services.  One of our students at the University passed away on Tuesday under odd circumstances and a client's PA died abruptly last month while under local care.  This, and a previous episode with one of the private providers, doesn't fill me with confidence in the health care system here.

My plan expires in March so I will look into the insurance and hospitalization options for expats this next month and try to put a comparison chart up for review by end of November.

Dear Readers, As points of information: AMC rates vary on the level of examination: a physician visit is charged from $85 (430 UAH) to $215 (1,085 UAH). Procedures, diagnostics and medications would be charged additionally.

AMC does provide a direct billing service to most international insurance providers so other than co-payments or deductibles, there is no out of pocket expense at the time of the visit. To see if your insurance qualifies, please call AMC or me directly.

Further, and as mentioned in this forum, American Medical Centers sells affordable premium plans ranging from an outpatient-only plan (consultations, specialists, diagnostics, urgent-care) that sells for $850 per annum to a comprehensive medical insurance package, the AMC Health and Wellness Plan, that sells for $1,250 per year. These plans are similar to an insurance plan but currently, unfortunately, only apply in Kyiv and do not cover AMC's affiliate clinics in Russia or abroad.

Finally, AMC currently employs two American physicians (Dr. Sinan Turnacioglu--US Board and Licensed Pediatrician--and Dr. Rose Gazin--US Board Internal Medicine.

I hope these answers have been helpful. Please call or write directly if you have any further questions. Sincerely, Alex Sokol (General Director, AMC)

Thanks Alex.

I don't know about everyone else, but I put this under the heading of good information rather than advertising.  It seems to have been offered in the spirit of clarifying questions that were asked on the board rather than an overt marketing attempt.

It's definitely advise rather than advertisement, as everyone could be in need of such information. I wish I knew more six weeks ago. The AMC is also just around the corner from my new building, if anyone is ever in the mood for a post check-up cup of tea!

American Medical Center rate structure for 2008:

Health and Wellness Plan ($1,450) - Comprehensive plan covering both outpatient and inpatient services. For  individuals, the plan costs $1,450, and goes down with families and companies... depending on how many individuals, age, etc...

AMC Outpatient Plan ($855) - This is an outpatient only plan, one year (12 months) coverage and covers all physicians, specialists, diagnostics, lab, etc...

Personally, I use the full plan and recommend them.  They have full range services including family practice, pediatrics, OB/GYN and the facility is far and away the best I have seen so far in Ukarine.
