Does anybody happen to know typical rates of American Medical Center for seeing a physician, for example?

A friend of mine had to go there and their bill was $ 150 per visit (with no medications) that seems way too much for a domestic medical institution even branded as American.

Well, I have been to Boris and I have been to AMC - I prefer AMC.  The facility, staff and treatments were significantly better.  You are on so more in a minute.

Yes, they are expensive if you have been used to an insurance company picking up the balance over the deductible.  I have heard of single visit costs as high as $400.  But, be aware they have a 12 month wellness program for $650 which covers all outpatient services (including emergency treatment) and one for $1250 which adds on ambulance services and home visits.  I have both my wife and I covered by the advanced program and am extremely happy with the quality of services I receive.  I am not conversant in Russian and I want to be absolutely sure I understand everything said, proposed and instructed to get well if I require attention.  Short of an American-style insurance program, I feel secure that they will provide reliable health care and that?s what I pay them for.

You get what you pay for.

Been to see Boris...hahahahhahahahahahaha! Cheesy Grin Grin
ROFLMAO!

Just curious are their really American doctors there or are their just Ukrainian English speaking doctors that are a little more sensitive to bed side manner because of the money they are making?

The plans you mentioned might make sense but one visit is extremely high, even higher than it would be in US without insurance.  Is there really any justification for that?

Don't agree.

It depends on what you go in there for.

The $370  something bill included labwork and ultra-sound.  A simple, "my sinuses are infected" or "my foot itches a lot" isn't going to cost $375.

As far as I know "Ingo Ukraine" (my company has a corporate agreement with them) has English-speaking doctors. Thanks God, I didn't have a need to check myself but my expat collegues have never complained.

I seemed to be a regular there some time ago and I think a standard consultation is about $80, but add on a blood test, X ray, consultation with a specialist in Moscow, operation in Moscow then it all adds up! Thank God for Insurance.

What is the price for a consultation there?

I cannot really tell you as the insurance covers it 100%, no deductibles. Oh, by the way, "Ingo Ukraine" is actually an insurance company which may refer a patient to this or that medical center. My wife says she has been mostly directed to “Alfa-Vita

Looks like we will have to stick with Ukrainian doctors! We are both pensioners.

Hmmmm.  They went up on the full wellness program in the last couple of months.  However, the plan without ambulance, house calls or med-evac coordination is only $650 for the year.  That covers unlimited outpatient care and consultations.  Remember though, you will pay for the meds. That's an adjustment and financial shock for those of us used to insurance always picking up the tab. Sorry folks, but I still see this as a better healthcare program for expats and, according to the stories I have heard, the locals as well. I have to say that when it comes to my health, I want the best I can afford.  If the sniffles start, I am not flying to Vienna or Berlin, but heading down the street to AMC.  I want instructions and diagnosis explained to me clearly, in English, by doctors I am used to seeing.  Not whoever happens to be on duty at the time.

I've dealt with 2 doctors at the AMC, one Peruvian who spoke good English and one Indian, who spoke better English than me as usual. All the staff there speak good English too. It's pricey but in terms of service good.

The company has recently switched to "Rosno". I talked to a program manager of the medical insurance and she said one-year insurance is about 5,200 UAH for so-called Program "A". Basically, that's 150,000 UAH coverage for treatments, remedies, ambulances, and hospitals. No copayments, no deductibles. The manager also said they had English-speaking operators in their call-center and English-speaking doctors.

5,200 UAH is  a corporate rate, and a personal one would be about twice more plus a medical examination may be required. Still much cheaper that AMC thought.

Well, not cheaper, but certainly different.  I pay less for my wife and I on the highest level AMC plan than you describe for just one person.  However, the AMC plan is a "Wellness" plan at a fixed location while this offering is traditional insurance.  The AMC plan is good as a first-level plan for someone who doesn't travel too much but is not intended to be a comprehensive medical insurance program.  It doesn't include drugs for instance, you have to purchase them on your own dime.  I'll call around in the next week or so and see what options are available.  Need to figure out what to do by March when my present plan expires.

Sorry, you're right. $ 1,250 you mentioned is a little bit more than 5,200 UAH but definitely much less than "walk in" rate. On the other hand, I was under impression AMC didn't cover drugs at all, did it?
