Hi guys,
After a short summer break I am home again, hot and bo(the)red.
I was actually kinda wondering if I should start teaching Engish again, but here in Kiev this time around. I have been teaching English in Poland before and that was truly superb, although sometimes my supervisors weren't as punctual and clear regarding their desired curriculum/scheduling, as we wanted them to be like, but it's okay, everybody's dealing with issues like that.
Is there any increasing interest regarding the need for English in everyday life? I mean, students, corporate, investment, international projects?
How much is an hourly fee that your employers are ready to give you (plus/minus VAT) per capita, is it paid on a weekly or monthly basis?
What about the students - are they okay folks, or just a silly bunch who hire a tutor to have a good laugh?
Do you make enough cash to live on outta here, teaching English?
Is it worth it to invest 7.500 UAH into a CELTA/TESOL Certificate at the British Council, ASSUMING MY ENGLISH IS AMERICAN?
Thanks in advance for your responses !
xo

We've started a new thread about teaching English in Ukraine.  Check it out.

Summer time is slow and schools seem to be hedging their bets by hiring lots of teaches to teach just a few hours a week.

By fall, hopefully things will have calmed down and we can go back to working enough hours to make a living.  The most important thing ESL teachers can do here is network, so that schools must pay competitive salaries and treat people right or get a bad name for themselves among ESL teachers.

So ESL teachers please come forward and talk about your schools!

Re another thread where there was discussion about schools that hand out flyers at Metro stations:  American English Center uses flyers as their almost only advertising and seem to do well from it.
