I just heard that the NBU increased the amoount of money that can be taken out of the country without any papers. Before if you wanted to take out more than $3,000 you had to declare it when entering the country. Now I was told that the amount has been increased to 10,000 Euro or equivalent. Can anyone confirm this?

A colleague just read this today (27 July) in a Kiev newspaper:  10000 euros is the new limit (but he said this was just a newspaper article...) the article made no mention about whether or not you had to declare it inbound.

Yes, it is true. See Government Customs site (in Ukrainian)

http://www.customs.gov.ua/dmsu/control/uk/publish/article?art_id=376172&cat_id=295923

"From July, 27 citizens can transport available currency without writing declaration to 10 thousand euro......"

This is important, so I have started a new thread on the "Handy Things to Know" topic. Thanks for bringing this up.

Can someone also verify my understanding .......... "citizens"? Citizens of where? Thanks.

Carl - checked with the Airport Director and The Customs Boss at Odessa Airport - the answer is as follows:

With 9999 Euro a citizen from any country does not need to make a declaration either bringing it in or out of Ukraine.  10000 Euro will require the declaration.  To clarify, I did ask relating to Sterling and USD - it is the sum equvilant to 9999 Euro which will not require declaration.........just have to make sure you do not get caught by an exchange rate issue if not in Euro I guess.   Undecided

If you want to check yourself - the phone number for "General Customs Enquiries" at Odessa Airport is +380482393470.  Obviously I don't want to publish the mobiles of the above mentioned but that is the number they gave me for the benefit of those on the forum.  Wink Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

10 000 EUR limit is correct. If the currency is different, customs officer uses National Bank of Ukraine rates to calculate the amount (f.e. in USD).
