Originally it was a holiday promoting equality and freedom for all women. But, in late Soviet Union, it evolved into some sort of Mother’s Day, but not only for mothers — grandmothers, daughters, sisters too! It doesn’t have the political message anymore and celebrates just the beauty, love and kindness of Ukrainian women.
